Gatis Community Space and Lavender art worked together bring glass fusing to the Whitmore Reans Community in preparation for the 2019 Autumn Lantern Parade.

Gatis Community Space is a site that is open to and welcomes all with a continuous flow of projects and activities going on all year round. From one-off's to long term projects such as The Real Junk Food Project and the annual Lantern Parade, they are always keeping themselves busy.

“Our projects offer the community a chance to learn, socialise and become a part of a group and share an interest with like-minded people.

We are not based on any specific faith or culture, but we do seek to bring all cultures together through tolerance, acceptance of differences and celebrating those differences together as a community.”

The site is run by volunteers who come together to share their skills, start new projects, meet new people, socialise, generally help out and enjoy the site and all it has to offer, supported by a small management team who provide direction, advice and information.

For this CBC funded project Gatis Community Space has partnered with Wolverhampton glass artist Suzie Lavender, who took along her fused glass skills and knowledge to guide and create the fused glass lantern panels with the community of Whitmore Reans.

The project was open to all ages and abilities, singles and groups. “We invite families and friendship groups to work on their lanterns together and encourage the creation of shared art.”

The lanterns made were used in thr lantern parade through Whitmore Reans on November 23rd 2019, and following the parade participants were able to collect and take home their creations.
