Visual artists are being asked to take part in Wolverhampton’s ultimate art & photography challenge as Paint the Day returns for 2019. This outdoor family event is organised by Newhampton Arts Centre and helps promote the Whitmore Reans area whilst bringing the Wolverhampton community together in a creative way.

This is the fifth year of the annual competition and exhibition that is open to artists and photographers of all levels, including professional artists and amateurs alike. On Saturday the 22nd of June Paint the Day begins, challenging participants to create their very own masterpiece in just eight hours. Artists can use anything from traditional watercolours, experimental photography to abstract collage, allowing them to interpret the scene in any visual style they wish. Using the Newhampton Art Centre as a starting point, artists will go onto capture a scene within a one mile radius.

Earlier this year NAC worked with Wolverhampton Society of Artists to create improved exhibition facilities, located in NAC’s beautiful Victorian gallery hall, the response to these new facilities as been very positive. On Sunday the 23rd June, all entries will be displayed in a FREE public exhibition. Visitors will be encouraged to vote for their favourite work of art and can to bid on individual pieces, giving the artists a chance to sell their work in an auction.

There are four cash prizes to be won, reaching a combined total of £800. The first prize of £300 will be awarded by a professional judging panel. Prizes this year have been supported by generous donations from The School of Art at Wolverhampton University and the Wolverhampton Municipal Grammer School Old Pupils Association.

The second prize of £150 is awarded by public vote. Judges will also be awarding a photography prize of £100 and an under 18’s prizes of £50.

Paint the Day 2019 artist registration cost £10 per adult and £2 per child, with advance and family tickets also available and a special early bird registration priced at just £6 until 3rd June. All tickets can be easily obtained through the Newhampton Arts Centre website
