As part of Creative Black Country’s ongoing ‘creative documentation,’ we are looking for four content ‘editors’ to help us spread some Bostin’ News during these extraordinary times.

We’re commissioning stories, features and articles that highlight the work and creatives from the Black Country (Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall).

The stories don’t need to be about the current situation but we’d like a record of how people used creativity to get them through this difficult time. Maybe you have been writing a story or some poetry? Maybe you’ve taken a series of pictures during your daily exercise? Maybe you’ve learnt a new skill that you’d like to share?

How to get involved as an editor:

We need 4 x editors that will commission (you’ll have a small budget) 3 x pieces of work in your area. So ideally you will have or can reach out to a small network of creatives.

You’ll also be a content producer yourself and will contribute 2 of your own pieces.

What kind of things are we looking for?

We’re looking for content creators with good, fun, innovative ideas that can help bring this unique piece of Black Country documentation to life.

If you’ve produced poetry, a short story, illustrations or photographs taken during the pandemic and have got ideas that could be included on both a virtual platform as well as in a printed newspaper then we’d love to hear from you.

We’ll also consider and be mindful of access needs when creating content and will work with content creators to do this.

How can I produce content for both online and offline?

That’s where the innovative ideas part comes in.

Can you (or your contributor) write a poem or story with your twitter community - that’s produced and displayed on social media but can be replicated in print?
Can you encourage others to take photos under a series or theme that goes with a story that could be shared daily on Instagram?
Can you encourage people to participate in a production of some kind via a video call platform that can be edited to make a play?

We’re open to ideas!

Fees
As an editor, you’ll have a fee of £750 each. With an additional £450 to commission 3 x pieces of work by other people.

Each piece of work must be new and specifically for this publication. Whoever takes part must produce their own original work. If they are asking any others (e.g. people from their network or community) to get involved then they must have permission to use their work.

We’ll have an additional content creation budget also for some of the pieces as and when required. For example video editing or printing.
