Wolverhampton’s Paint the Day with Midsummer Festival
Newhampton Arts Centre has joined forces with other West Midlands companies who are coming together to celebrate the region’s art and culture with a Midsummer Festival.
The one-day festival aims to celebrate the arts and culture in the area on Saturday 20th June. NAC’S Paint the Day 2020 is now part of programme, giving the public opportunity to get creative in lockdown and leave their creative mark on a Summer Solstice.
Midsummer Festival is the first event organised by the West Midlands Culture Response Unit (WMCRU), which has been created to co-ordinate, develop and deliver an action-orientated, response by over 100 arts organisations in the West Midlands to the Covid-19 crisis in the short, medium and long term.
The festival will feature a collection of many West Midlands theatre, dance, music, artists and venues Midsummer Festival will mark the Summer Solstice, opening to new possibilities for Paint the Day 2020.
Wolverhampton’s ultimate art & photography challenge, Paint the Day will return online on Saturday 20th June. This is the sixth year of the annual competition and exhibition, NAC has not let the current global situation stop their outdoor event but instead enhance it, adding new possibilities to the competition.
Paint the Day participants who are self-isolating or shielding will be able to find inspiration from their homes and garden for this year’s event.
An online exhibition of all entries will be available to see the following day, and a physical exhibition at NAC of the originals will follow in the autumn when prizes will be awarded.
Like previous years there be over £500 in prize money including and overall First Prize, Photography, U-18 and the Public Vote. All artwork will be submitted online to Newhampton Arts Centre on Saturday 20th June with a chance to drop off physical work, once the centre is back open.
