Cosy Community Commissions - up to £2000

Creative Black Country (CBC) is offering micro commissions of up to £2000 for projects to deliver creative activities in a warm and comfortable space for local communities in the Black Country. 

We are looking for creative responses which will bring fun, joy, connection and creativity to local people within warm spaces in the Black Country. 

We are happy to support proposals that provide creative activity with existing warm hubs in your local area, these might be organised by your local voluntary council or local authority. Find out more: DudleySandwellWolverhampton and Walsall.

CBC supports local communities in Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton to co-create new work that is relevant, authentic and genuinely participatory for people living in the Black Country. We also offer support to communities to develop their skills and confidence in building creative and cultural activities. 

We expect to award between 8 to 12 commissions. Awards will be on a rolling basis until the 11th February 2023 or until the budget is all allocated. * PLEASE NOTE - due to the overwhelming number of proposals received, we have now closed this call-out.

Successful commissions will be expected to deliver their warm space activity by the 31st March 2023.

Creative Advisers in your area 

Our Creative Advisers are available to support you in developing and planning your project ideas. Anyone can ask for support from our Creative Advisers, you don’t have to have a formal group or have a fully formed idea, just a desire to do something creative in your local community, and they could help you to develop it into a proposal. 

A successful proposal will need to offer the following as a minimum: 

  • A warm (min 18 degrees Celsius) and accessible indoor space with comfortable seating areas. 

  • Adequately staffed and insured. 

  • Free warm drinks/refreshments. 

  • Be open to sharing resources offering advice on keeping warm, tackling cost of living etc (these will may be provided by third parties)

Submitting your proposal 

To apply, you will need to

  1. Write a proposal of up to 1000 words or create a video of up to 5 minutes long, outlining your project idea including a simple budget illustrating how the money will be spent

  2. Complete our monitoring form

  3. Send your proposal (including a sentence confirming you’ve completed the monitoring form) to: cosy@creativeblackcountry.co.uk 

In your proposal, please include:  

  • Your name/organisation & contact details 

  • Proposed name and title of your idea (if applicable) 

  • An outline of the activity taking place (who, what, where, when, and why) 

  • How many people will participate  

  • Time frame 

  • Potential outcome or benefit to the people involved 

  • Amount requested including any additional access costs. (We can also provide additional cash to make your work accessible, this could include having a BSL interpreter, specific print such as braille, etc.  

* We don’t cover large equipment costs, however we can cover the cost of materials and / or equipment hire 

* Please only ask for the amount you need, don’t feel you have to request the full £2000 limit, we only have a limited budget and can support more projects if lower amounts are requested
