Our Year 7 Summary

Year 7 Summary - April 2021 to March 2022

With the ongoing challenges of COVD-19 and its after-effects the approach to our work has continued to reflect and react to what our network of artists, creatives, organisations and communities tell us.

Creative Connections opportunities (micro-commissions of up to £3000) have continued to support groups to bring joy and happiness to their neighbourhoods; we wrapped up out international Youth Lab project with a celebration event in Wolverhampton and hope to have inspired some young activists to continue working in the community; we continued supporting our Creative Associates in Dudley to produce projects (as well as winning a tender with Dudley MBC for a programme of work across the borough); our project F Words commissioned partner projects that emphasised fun and positivity focusing on fabulous, feel-good activities that brought people together; we commissioned over 30 artists for OFFsite9 in Wolverhampton - the local response to the major touring British Art Show 9; and finally our Desi Pubs project lived on and was taken to Venice to be part of the British Council's Pavilion at the Biennale.

We’ve produced a set of mini case studies to highlight some of this work during year 7 which will give you an idea of the projects and support we have been doing as a team here at CBC.

Making the most of... local opportunities to be in the spotlight
When Hayward Gallery announced that the 5-year touring British Art Show would be visiting Wolverhampton for 4 months in early 2022, CBC set about engaging and supporting regional artists to respond to its themes. Over 30 artists were commissioned to produce new works across Wolverhampton. Meanwhile our Desi Pubs project continues to live on with another international showcase.

Love Letters by Barbara and Marta for F Words

Making the most of... creative responses to challenges
The CBC team continued to respond to new challenges, with the impact of COVID-19 on communities and creatives being a key area to address. Due to the changing landscape and work post-COVID lockdowns CBC spoke to people across the cultural sector. Attending meetings, workshops, informal discussions, and listening to what our Creative Advisors and Associates are hearing across communities, we want to support ideas that can help us build resilience and continue to help nurture our network across the Black Country.
