It's Dark Without It's Light Within - launch photo gallery
'It’s Dark Without, It’s Light Within' by Siân Macfarlane is now open: Friday & Saturday 12-4pm until the 10th April at Asylum Gallery, 21 Clifton St, Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton WV3 0TZ.
Pioneering Victorian art photographer Oscar Rejlander believed that photography would make painters better artists and more careful draughtsman. He began to experiment with lighting to reduce exposure times and to accentuate outline and textures and also began to experiment in composition photographs, in which each print consisted of several images from different negatives. This has been the starting point for Sian's photographic work in response to Rejlander’s imagery, photographing the people who contribute to the creative life of the city of Wolverhampton.
Commissioned as part of SINGLEPOINT for #OFFSITE9 in partnership with Asylum Artist Quarter, and Creative Black Country.
