Creative Connections: Turning Points by Laura Dicken
Laura is an award winning Visual Artist based in the Black Country, England. Through her work she hopes to create opportunities for previously untold stories to be shared authentically, illuminating the shared human experience and celebrating the extraordinary ordinary.
About the project:
Turning Points (who we were, who we are, who we will be) is a new creative project. Working with participants across the Black Country regions, Laura will remotely record personal reflections on subjects such as happiest memories in the Black Country, what we have to be proud of as we collectively navigate the present moment and aspirations for the future.
These voice recordings will be used to create a series of short photo montage films animated using photographs supplied by participants, sourced via local archive services and from the artists own archive.
Turning Points will explore how we are all connected strongly through personal timelines and sense of place. The project will be co-created with participants from across all of the boroughs and from a broad spectrum of ages and backgrounds.
Laura says: “Hopefully Turning Points will inspire people to enjoy a meaningful sense of place and community, invite them to reflect on their own stories and perhaps even record and share them online.”
