Creative Connections - YAM CAMS launches a new book in the Black Country

Commissioned by Creative Black Country as part of our Creative Connections commissions, Yam Cams encouraged ordinary people across the region to take a closer look at their local environment and view it with a fresh eye. The results of the project are now recorded in a new book called ‘Yam Cams: Picturing the Black Country’.

Artist Tom Hicks came up with the project idea and says:

“Yam Cams has been such a positive and popular project. We’ve been sent so many wonderful photographs from people across the Black Country.

The project was open to anyone and all the photographs in the book are taken in the area. The book also features an amazing piece of writing by the Black Country novelist Kerry Hadley-Pryce”.

Images sent in to Yam Cams are displayed on the Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts where people will be able to see all the images and find out more about the book.

The book will be widely available in the coming weeks: “Libraries and archives across the Black Country have agreed to stock the book” says Tom. “It’s a great snapshot of life in the Black Country.”
