Youth Lab Wolves - Artist Commissions - £2000

Youth Labs - May 2021 Invitation .png

CBC is working with Curiosity Productions on our Youth Labs project over the next few months and they are commissioning artists (open to all art forms) to collaborate with communities to help consult the young people of Wolverhampton regarding their visions for the city.

Youth Lab Wolves is a project that aims to collate and uplift the voices of young people in Wolverhampton, to redesign and improve the city for the future.

The main drive for the events is to get an understanding of how young people see Wolverhampton presently and what their visions are for the future and present these ideas and opinions to people that have the power to make these changes. We want to do this as creatively as possible and have visual representations of the feedback gathered, as well as statistical data.

The Project Delivery

The creative consultation will take place through a combination of drop-in activity as part of wider city events as well as workshops with community groups. The creative consultation will cover four key themes:

  • Events and promotion of what’s on for young people

  • Architecture and the built environment

  • Environmental sustainability

  • Retail and the high street

The Commission

Curiosity would like to commission a professional artist or artist collective, from any art form, that can deliver creative activity around the four themes at the drop-in events and workshops and work in real time to produce art inspired by the input of the young people or work with the young people to create pieces of art themselves.

You must have established or have strong links to the region and experience in developing works with community driven stories.

The commissions will be based in Wolverhampton and you will be required to research and develop the ideas in the area with the local community.

The commission will form part of the wider event and the work will feature as part of the Youth Lab Wolves advocacy event in September to share the feedback we have collated with the people in power from the area.

We are open to receiving proposals from individuals, joint applications, collectives of artists or organisations.

Fee: £2000 for up to 3 drop-in activity days, and 4 half day workshops during August, and participation in an advocacy event to local politicians and stakeholders in early September.
