Culture Volunteers - Smethwick Heritage Centre Recruitment Day
The rain didn’t deter the team at Smethwick Heritage Centre going ahead with their volunteer recruitment day, and what a lovely, friendly, event it turned out to be.
A cheery crew was ready and waiting to welcome visitors and would be new recruits
… and there was the added attraction of a buffet for any hardy souls who’d braved the weather!
The Centre is easy to find in Victoria Park, Smethwick, and houses a variety of artefacts and ephemera that celebrate Smethwick, it’s people, and it’s history. From items connected to WWII …
.. to more recent industrial heritage …
… and some current creativity donated by a recent visitor …
But the Centre isn’t just about celebrating the past, it’s also about being part of the community in the present and future, and that’s where volunteers come in. Several new volunteers signed up during the day, including Narinder …
… but more are needed to support future events and projects that the team have planned. There’s an exciting gardening project on the horizon if you like to get your hands dirty or, if you are more of the indoors type there’s a need for people to help on reception, work on the website, and assist with archiving the Centre’s ever-growing collection. The team would be happy to hear from someone who could take on the role of Treasurer too.
If you are interested in these, or any other volunteering opportunities available, please email the Heritage Centre Trust at info@smethwick.org.uk. If you prefer to phone, you can reach them on 0121 55 7278 or the mobile helpline is 07500 509475

There hadn’t been any volunteers at the theatre for roughly ten years, so it was big step to take for them to get them back on board. 71 people came to the recruitment days and there’s now a lovely team of 30 volunteers. The following film tells a little of that story …
