Celebrating 10 Years: Offsite 9
Celebrating 10 Years: Offsite 9
In early 2022, Wolverhampton became a vibrant hub of artistic expression through Offsite 9, a programme initiated by Creative Black Country as a local response to the visiting British Art Show 9. Running from January to April, Offsite 9 showcased an array of creative works that transformed city spaces into immersive art experiences.
Funded by Arts Council England and supported by Paycare, Offsite 9 was developed in collaboration with local organisations including Asylum Art Gallery, Flexus Dance, DASH, Bobby Tiwana, Fused and Nelson Douglas. This collective effort aimed to complement the British Art Show 9 (BAS9), a significant touring exhibition highlighting contemporary British art.
Offsite9 encompassed three main strands:
Live Creative Commissions: Over 25 artists and collectives presented new works that resonated with BAS9's themes of healing, care, reparative history, tactics for togetherness, and imagining new futures. These pieces were exhibited across Wolverhampton, inviting public engagement.
9 Words People Podcasts: A series of nine podcasts were produced, fostering conversations that reflected the local community's perspectives in a changing social and political landscape. These discussions aimed to capture authentic voices and envision hopeful futures.
9 Pages Printed Publication and Map: Collaborating with local designers, illustrators, photographers, and writers, a curated print publication was created. This piece narrated the stories of Wolverhampton's residents and highlighted the city's artistic talent.
